Tea Party Tuesday 3.24.09

Jack Cafferty “gets” it. In a new column posted today on CNN.com he points out:
“Our ballooning deficits have driven down the value of the dollar so much that the Chinese government recently asked for guarantees from Washington that the Treasury bills they own are safe.
All of this isn’t lost on the average American. Last week there were protests and demonstrations by taxpayers in cities all around the country who are beginning to object in increasing numbers to runaway government spending, taxes, bailouts and our growing national debt. These protests were called tea parties. Has a familiar ring to it, doesn’t it?”

So just exactly what do all these people from backgrounds diverse and geography spread all “get”? They’re fed up with the Federal Government ignoring them; Ignoring the mountain of debt that politicians pandering to special interests are piling on future generations; Ignoring the devaluing of the dollar and the impending inflation around the corner; Ignoring that this county was founded upon individual liberty and personal responsibility, not forced socialism and collective entitlement.

But the most common thread they have is their history. History of a time long past, when another government ignored the call of liberty. History of a time when their calls went unheeded and action was required. History when at last, enough, was enough.

Whether you decide to just send in a tea bag or organize your own tea party it matters not. What matters is that you at least do SOMETHING.
