Look Beyond

I watch my friends at play,
How I wish that I could too.
Just to jump and catch a ball,
Is something I can’t do.

For my body doesn’t work.
My limbs are weak and frail.
No matter how I try,
It’s still to no avail.

But for pity I don’t ask,
Nor tears of sympathy.
Just treat me with respect,
Please let me just be me.

Don’t shy away in guilt,
For you were not the cause.
Step up and say hello,
Look past the body’s flaws.

For inside I’m full of life,
My spirit still runs free.
I’m only wheelchair bound,
By those too blind to see..
