Is this America’s last, true ‘Independence Day’?

If only Obama would read this

Every July 4th I reflect upon the Founders and their Declaration and every time I find myself in awe of just how profound their beliefs, how prophetic their words, and how bold their actions.

236 years ago today, 56 signatories representing 13 colonies pledged their honor, their fortunes and their lives for but one basic belief: that the only “just” government was a government constrained and bound by the liberties of the governed.

While that basic tenet has come under attack many times throughout our history, never before has it been as blatantly abused as it has during the past 3 ½ years under the Obama administration and its allies in Congress.

And dare you think such an assessment too harsh, take a few moments and reflect upon what’s happening today in reference to the circumstances surrounding the original Declaration:

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.–Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government. The history of the present King of Great Britain is a history of repeated injuries and usurpations, all having in direct object the establishment of an absolute Tyranny over these States. To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world.

Can anyone other than the most hard-core leftist honestly not admit that the rampant expansion of federal power and intrusion under Obama is as far away from “deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed” as it can get?

That the federal government being now “transformed” and set forth for the future is absolutely “destructive of these ends” and that it is most certainly the “Right of the People to alter or to abolish it”?

And while some today are still “more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable” does it not fall upon the rest of us to “right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.”?

Are not the actions of the past few years “a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object [that] evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism,”?

Should not the rest of us then heed “it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”?

Is not six trillion dollars in new debt a threat to our future security?

Is not a government takeover of healthcare a threat to future liberty?

Is not an energy sector destroyed by government regulation a threat to future economic freedom?

Is not a council of czars and an imperial Presidency a threat to the very future of the nation as founded?

Are not a Department of Homeland Security run amok and a Department of Justice ignoring the rule of law very real threats to all our futures?

Cannot anyone on the left see that the “means justifies the ends, relative morality” so readily embraced is destroying their own future as well; that in the name of “fairness” and “social justice” they are destroying both?

The sad truth is no, the left will not see. The sadder truth is that if the left is not stopped and stopped soon it will be too late.

And the tragedy of tragedies will be that come November 7th, 2012 we awake to an America where divisiveness and class-warfare finally defeated founding principles, and that come July 4th, 2013 it is still one Barack Obama overseeing the destruction from within of a nation once forged in freedom and for whom so many, so bravely gave all to protect.

Now go, enjoy the day. Break out the brats, the burgers, chill down the beer, the tea, or even the Kool-Aid, share the fireworks with family and friends. But come tomorrow and for every day these next four months, remember just how critical the stakes and do whatever you can to ensure that what you enjoyed today continues for hundreds of July 4th’s to come.

You might also heed the words of another patriot from the past, one Ronald Wilson Reagan, 40th President of this great experiment:

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.
