Batman movie shooting brings a trifecta of disgusting behavior (Video)

The tragedy that is the Batman movie shooting in Aurora, CO last night is unfortunately exposing additional dark sides to our modern American culture.

First up is ABC News and more specifically, reporter Brian Ross and GMA host George Stephanopoulos for their outrageous behavior of suggesting that a Tea Party Patriots supporter, one Jim Holmes was possibly the shooter. (See “The Usual Suspects..” from breitbart.com.)

Yes, Ross cautioned that “we don’t know if this is the same Jim Holmes” but the very fact that he would even suggest it, and that ABC News let such unvetted, irresponsible reporting onto the air in the first place flies in the face of everything that used to be decent about “reporting the news”.(Stephanopoulos’s behavior is as expected considering his past roles in the Clinton administration and his left field contraceptive question to Mitt Romney during the Republican primary debates that set up the Obama campaign’s “Republicans war on women” narrative just weeks later.)  But expected or not, it’s no less disgusting.

Politico is reporting that ABC News was the only television news outlet to suggest a Tea Party connection. (This is the same ABC that within four days of the Tucson tragedy had up a Karen Travers piece “Will Tucson Shooting Spark a Call for Tougher Gun Laws?” so it will be interesting to see how long before they push the same narrative following this tragedy.)

Second up and also from breitbart.com is the “I’m not even an American but I’m going to lecture you on your laws”, Piers Morgan. John Nolte has posted tweets showing that Morgan couldn’t even wait 24 hours before exploiting the tragedy into a call for gun control:

Horrendous details from this Colorado cinema shooting. America has got to do something about its gun laws. Now is the time.

More Americans will buy guns after this, to defend themselves, and so the dangerous spiral descends. When/how does it stop?

Lunatics like this will always try and get guns. It should be 100,000 times harder than it is for them to do so. That’s my point.

Really Piers?  The bodies aren’t even cold and you’re pushing a political agenda?   I was in London in 1994 when one Ian Kay, brutally murdered Woolworth assistant manager John Penfold with a kitchen knife while Kay was on leave from prison so I wouldn’t be so quick to lecture America.

If a lunatic wants to kill, he will.

And last but by no means least, are the soul less idiots in the YouTube clip that started chanting “Four More Years” as President Obama exited the stage at a previously scheduled campaign event.

The outrage at these idiots is that the President had just remarked “If there’s anything to take away from this tragedy it’s the reminder that life is very fragile,”….”Our time here is limited and precious.” and asked the audience for a moment of silence.

Seems that every time I think I’ve seen the lowest of the low, someone, somewhere shows there can be lower. How anyone could begin chanting “Four More Years” after hearing the news of such a massacre of fellow human beings is beyond mystery, it is beyond the realm of human decency.

And there you have it, a trifecta of behavior worthy of but only one thing:  disgust.

At times such as this, perspective is imperative.

With over 300 million of us in this country alone, and billions more spread across the planet, tragedy and horror are never more than a moment away.

It cannot be avoided, it cannot be denied, but one thing it should NEVER be is politically exploited.

Brain Ross, George Stephanopoulos, Piers Morgan and those chanting idiots owe more than an apology for their behavior, they owe themselves a look in the mirror and an accounting of just what kind of human beings they wish to be.

Wherever you are now, whatever you may be doing, please take a moment and say a prayer for the victims and their families.

And as you go about your daily routines, never let, “there but for the grace of God go I” stray far from your heart, lest you forget what truly matters in this crazy, convoluted speck of universe we call life.

One Response to Batman movie shooting brings a trifecta of disgusting behavior (Video)

    Geoff,

The politization of crazy acts is typical in American politics today.

I as you know support hand gun control at a minimum and consider assualt weapons in the hands of anyone other than the military simply crazy. But so what.

Had other folks in the theater had guns other than the crazies, more would have probably died.

It is the “craziness” that must be controlled for starters. And more guns or less guns does not control it. I have no idea who did this or why, yet and frankly am not following the story on it, the shooting. To me it is self evident that some “nut” or “nuts” decided to “cut loose”.

Now how does society prevent that kind of thing?? Remove guns from “nuts” and they could just as well use knives to do their “thing”.

As well I am NOT in favor of restricting video “things” that show crazy people acting out. What I am in favor of is an education system that teaches the young (and older folks) that such “craziness” NEVER achieves ultimate goals, even when the bank robbers “get away with it, on rare occassions!

    Anson
