Friday Follies 2.6.09

Tis that time once again when we take stock of the inane and foolish put upon us by those forced to navigate life with an amount of gray matter just slightly larger than that found in your average toad.

From FDR’s first inaugural speech when the country was in the clutches of the Great Depression:
“This great Nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper.”
“So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself ”
(on the current troubles of the day)…They concern, thank God, only material things.”

(on the way ahead)…”Compared with the perils which our forefathers conquered because they believed and were not afraid, we have still much to be thankful for.”

Now compare that to Obama’s, “I’m going to scare the hell out of you” rhetoric the past couple days as Pelosi’s pet project hit trouble in the Senate:

From his February 5th op/ed in the Washington Post:

“And if nothing is done, this recession might linger for years. Our economy will lose 5 million more jobs. Unemployment will approach double digits. Our nation will sink deeper into a crisis that, at some point, we may not be able to reverse.”

Wow, that’s inspirational Mr. President, please can we have some more positive thoughts? Why sure Mr. Caldwell, how about this last paragraph from the same piece:
“So we have a choice to make. We can once again let Washington’s bad habits stand in the way of progress. Or we can pull together and say that in America, our destiny isn’t written for us but by us. We can place good ideas ahead of old ideological battles, and a sense of purpose above the same narrow partisanship. We can act boldly to turn crisis into opportunity and, together, write the next great chapter in our history and meet the test of our time.”

Yes we do have a choice Mr. President. To allow Nancy Pelosi and the far left of the Democratic party to spend this country into bankruptcy or to “act boldly” as many moderate Republican and Democrat Senators are doing as of this writing. In a showing of true bipartisanship they are trying to return the “stimulus” to the stimulus bill. And as for the “bad habits” you mention, I can think of no habit worse than putting on the backs of our children and grand children hundreds of billions of dollars of political payback.

More scare talk at the energy department yesterday (from AP and breitbart.com):

Be Afraid, Be VERY Afraid

From the “Do as we say, not as we do” and “You’ve GOT to be kidding” category:
ABCnews.com has a story by AP writer Laurie Kellman outlining the Democratic and Republican “retreats” taking place while millions are now unemployed.

Hey, we’re doing the PEOPLE’s work!

BUT, the Folly of the week goes to President Pelosi for increasing by $93,000 of your tax dollars EACH member of Congress’ petty cash allotment. (Notice that is not the TOTAL but an INCREASE of $93k) And then of course there’s the little issue of the over $4,000 raise they are all slated to receive as well.

Hey buddy, can you spare $93k?

Mr. Obama, will you please ask President Pelosi when she’s going to let you institute some of that change you told us about during the campaign? Because so far, all we’re getting is “chump” change.

Talk about toad brains!

Have a great weekend, see you back for oodles more fun on Monday.
