Illegals Get Legal

This story would normally be a Friday Follies topic, but after reading it yesterday it deserves light today, not tomorrow.

I don’t think there’s one of us who hasn’t heard of, or had a personal experience with our currently side-tracked justice system. Lady Justice’s blindfold has been stolen by political correctness and new “rights” handed down from the benches of judges more worried about agendas than Americans. One of those “rights” has found it’s way into a federal courtroom in Arizona.

Somehow, sixteen illegal immigrants have been granted legal standing and are suing 64 year old rancher Roger Barnett for violating their “civil” rights. What pray tell did Barnett do so horrible? He caught them trespassing on his property and had the gall to hold them at gunpoint until border patrol agents could arrive. Barnett has been fighting this battle for over a decade and has lost tens of thousands of dollars from the illegals’ activity but that doesn’t matter in the eyes of some today. No, Barnett is the villain and those poor “immigrants”, but the victims. Victims mind you that are suing for $32 million crisp green gringo dollars. (Who says America still isn’t the land of opportunity? Just don’t try to do it legally.) How dare he inflict “emotional distress” upon these poor, poor innocents.

Mr. Barnett is not some half crazed rabid animal. He is a former Cochise County Sheriff’s Deputy just trying to make a living:

“This is my land. I´m the victim here,” Mr. Barnett said. “When someone´s home and loved ones are in jeopardy and the government seemingly can´t do anything about it, I feel justified in taking matters into my own hands. And I always watch my back.”

Just a few decades back, Mr. Barnett’s words still rang true. Justice still meant justice and “illegal” was what it was, “illegal”. Yet now, that justice system is stabbing him in the back. A legal, American citizen, stripped of his right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness by liberal activists putting politics over prudence. We can only hope there’s at least one on that jury who still respects this country and what she used to stand for.
