Friday Follies: Delta smelt, Valentine’s Day, Obamacare Ilegals, and NBC loves up Stalin

February 14, 2014

It’s Friday and the Follies just keep on coming. NBC was busy doing what it does best: hide the truth and re-write history. Joe Wilson as it turns out was more right than we thought about Obama’s lies. Throw in Planned Parenthood, Nancy Pelosi, Facebook, an evironut attacking Valentine’s Day and our Dear Leader himself and you’ve got yet another jam packed episode.

For the week of February 14th, 2014 ”Tis that time once again when we take stock of the inane and foolish put upon us by those forced to navigate life with an amount of gray matter just slightly larger than that found in your average toad.”

#5 Goes to the NBC television network and it’s 1984 style of “news” coverage on Russia and the winter Olympics in Sochi. One after another, the talking heads for the most liberal of the big three, glossed over the Soviet Union era as nothing more than a grand experiment gone wrong and glowed at how wonderful it was the Russia that has emerged.

Not one mention of the tens of millions of Russian that died at the hands of Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin and others. Not one mention of the mass starvation self-imposed by Stalin so he could sell wheat to the west while his people fell dead in their homes. Not one mention of Siberia, the gulags, the KGB, the torture, the slave labor camps.

Not one mention of the truth of what most of the 20th century was for the average Russian.

Jonah Goldberg captures it all with his From Russia with Euphemisms piece. If you do nothing else today, read that one piece, it is THAT important.

Goldberg puts together a string of truths that NBC ignored. A sampling below:

By the time Western intellectuals and youthful folksingers like Pete Seeger were lavishing praise on the Soviet Union as the greatest experiment in the world, Joseph Stalin was corralling millions of his own people into slavery. Not metaphorical slavery, but real slavery complete with systematized torture, rape, and starvation. ………To read Anne Applebaum’s magisterial Gulag: A History is to subject yourself to relentless tales of unimaginable barbarity. A slave who falls in the snow is not helped up by his comrades but is instantly stripped of his clothes and left to die. His last words: “It’s so cold.”

#4 Remember when Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) got in all kinds of “how dare you” hot water for daring to shout out “YOU LIE” during one of Obama’s earliest lie-fests regarding Obamacare? Turns out Wilson should get a medal.

Along with the already known “if you like…..you can keep” whoppers, it turns out that the one about Obamacare would not cover illegal aliens wasn’t so true either.

From none other than our favorite socialist sister state of California, the Covered California website is publicly promoting that it will not share immigration status with ICE and doesn’t even bother to warn that under the law illegals are suppoed to be ineligible for coverage.

Growing up as a kid in Kansas I’d see the images of Ortega, Noriega and the bunch on the news and thank God that we didn’t have to live under despot rule here in the states. I now see images of Barack Obama on the news and realize those South Americans were lucky. At least they knew they were being led to ruin by ego maniacal despots. Whereas the Cult of Obama that is empowering him to continue his path of destruction doesn’t have a clue.

#3 Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards included in her Valentine wish for women under the hashtag #WhatWomenNeed a link to her Vine video that along with all the “heartsy” stuff like birth control, cancers screenings etc. as the need for Planned Parenthood and abortions. Yep, nothing says love stronger than “hey honey, it’s Valentine’s Day, what say we pop on over to Planned Parenthood and take care of the “problem” before it pops out and causes us all kinds of inconvenience and punishment”.

The one thing you can always be sure of when it comes to the radical left, is that whatever the issue, whatever the topic, it will ALWAYS be about THEMSELVES.

#2 Number two this week is a dual delight of liberal delusion. First is Nancy Pelosi for showing the world her ignorance of the absolute crumbling of society after 40 years of liberal battering: “Why would you get married? Why would anybody get married?…” Pretty much in line with her entire thought process wouldn’t you say? “Why do we need laws, we have Obama?” “Why read the bill when we can just find out what’s in it later?” “Why worry about the poor and higher energy costs when George Soros needs a new “climate” market?” “Why worry about debt today when we can just make our grand kids pay it tomorrow?”

And the other half of the tie for second place this week goes to that bastion of liberal tech Facebook which announced on its Diversity page that they were now giving their users up to 56 different options to display their “gender”. As Cailin Dewey over at WashPo writes: “Facebook will now allow users to identify not only as male or female, but as androgynous, bi-gender, intersex or any other identity they choose.”

And you thought Paul Simon’s 50 ways to leave your lover was a bit over the top.

#1 This week is again Dear Leader Obama. As much as his hypocrisy grates on me, as much as his demagoguery divides and rips our social fabric apart, as much as his Alinsky tactics shove aside any chance of reason and common sense compromise, as much as all that, the man never ceases to amaze me as to what new level of low will emerge each week.

In his latest effort to combat the immortal threat to the planet from that life giving plant food called CO2, Obama is loading the Air Force 1 caravan and jetting out to California’s Central Valley region to highlight the devastating drought, blame the devastating drought on “climate change”, and then in perfect Obama form, pops yet another Obama slush fund to “help” communities deal with negative weather from said climate change.

What’s worse, the idea that he and his wife (flew herself and the girls to Aspen this weekend for another “middle class” ski trip) continue to spew thousands of tons of their dreaded carbon into the atmosphere while telling the rest of us we have to cut back or that he’s flat out lying about much of the true cause of the lack of water in the central valley.

2010 was one of the wettest years on record for the area. Yet the farmers were unable to store that excess water for future use because the Obama environmentalists have successfully given the Delta Smelt more protection than the humans and the food they grow for the rest of the nation.

Victor Davis Hanson warned 3 years ago that “environmentalist efforts to save the delta smelt threaten to create a new dust bowl”. It’s a great read on the self-inflicted destruction that we will all be feeling in higher prices soon.

Whether you call it Global Warming, Climate Change or Chicken Little’s Last Revenge, the truth of the matter the earth has and will always had periods of change and extreme weather. The only thing that it didn’t have before were the likes of Al Gore, George Soros and and a blind cult willing to believe anything and everything as long as it has the words “consensus” and “climate” in it.

VALENTINE’s DAY BONUS

Jeffrey Ball, writing in the New Republic set a new record for stupid when it comes to environmentalist dogma with his piece “Valentine’s Day is an Environmental Travesty, The carbon costs of greeting cards”.

While you, me or any other homosapien with a brain would never think to demagogue the simple act of giving a paper card to express your love for your significant other as an act of planet killing proportion but then you, me and the rest of the homosapiens with brains aren’t members of the Church of Climatology.

This is what happens when you allow your brain to become so awash with propaganda that it drowns in its own idiocy:

According to the industry’s trade group, some 145 million Valentine’s cards are sold in the U.S. every year. Those cards are ridiculous not just because of the sappy sayings on their covers. They’re ridiculous because, on a planet of seven billion people, it’s nuts to buy a piece of card stock, place it into a paper envelope, and give it to someone who (I love you, honey) will smile at it, stuff it in a sock drawer, and, almost certainly, never glance at it again. It’s even crazier to buy said piece of card stock, drive it to the post office, and have the U.S. mail truck it to an airport and then fly it to its destination.

Sure, you could criticize on environmental grounds all manner of small pleasures, such as eating burgers, or driving gasoline-powered cars, or drinking frostily refrigerated beer (all habits in which I happily engage). Yet sending a greeting card is worse as an example of personal carelessness, because its greener alternative is so painless and, indeed, so much more convenient. I don’t like veggie burgers, I can’t afford a Tesla, and I hate warm beer. But forsaking a paper greeting card for an emailed Valentine? I’m pretty sure I—as well as my family and you—could live with that.

But the most laughable of his lines:

Reason is no match for emotion, of course, so it’s no surprise that the dead-tree greeting-card industry continues to thrive.

I seriously doubt Ball put much “reasoned” thought into the hundreds of thousands of people all along the chain that would be put out of work if his delusion was carried through to its end.

But then again, I digress. Thinking such an environut would use reason to frame anything he writes would be, well, quite an unreasonable thought now wouldn’t it?

And just in case you’re wondering, no there is no link to Ball’s piece. The one click I had to give it to relay such idiocy to you is one click too many. I’m certainly not going to contribute to giving him more.

BUT B. Christopher Agee has a good recap over at WesternJournalism if you want to click on over there.

As always, thanks for reading, have a great weekend and I’ll see ya round the Corner.
