Friday Follies: Harry Ried’s Koch addiction, Rutger’s Rice fit, Broadcast News climate silence and deBlasio, Issa, Cummings antics

Whether it was Harry Reid attacking the Koch brothers again, a Rutgers faculty council denouncing former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio kicking kids out of school to payback teachers unions, the broadcast networks silencing climate scientist skeptical of the Church of Climatology’s teachings, or the Darrell Issa – Elija Cummings IRS hearing circus, the lunacy and out right hatred of the left was on full display this past week.

”Tis that time once again when we take stock of the inane and foolish put upon us by those forced to navigate life with an amount of gray matter just slightly larger than that found in your average toad.”

#5  I start the Follies this week with yet another example of the broadcast television networks using their editorial power to disseminate yet another government sponsored propaganda push.  And in this case, it’s the Democrats’ shiny object of Climate Change and their need for the public to see it as an urgent crisis in need of immediate government coercion.

Sean Long writes in cnsnews.com that when it comes to the “other” side of Climate Change, the broadcast networks don’t even bother to tell the other side:

Like a simple parlor trick, the networks are able to make skeptical scientists vanish, at least from the eyes of their viewers.

In some cases, the broadcast networks have failed to include such scientists for years, while including alarmist scientists within the past six months. ABC, CBS and NBC’s lengthy omission of scientists critical of global warming alarmism propped up the myth of a scientific consensus, despite the fact that many scientists and thousands of peer-reviewed studies disagree.

ABC and CBS are the worst offenders of “only one side shall be told” having each gone for over 1300 days since an actual, living breathing scientist NOT a member of the Church of Climatology was allowed to speak on their nightly newscasts.  By comparison, NBC is a saint having only gone 298 days without an independent thinking scientist.

For decades, TASS and Pravda were the premier mouthpieces of the old Soviet Union.  Never mind that their “news” reports were mocked and dismissed the world over as nothing but pure propaganda, they served their purpose for decades as one generation after another was immersed in the communist party line.

The Soviet Union may have collapsed over 20 years ago but that purpose of immersing a nation in propaganda and government ideology is as alive and well today as it was during the most frigid years of the Cold War.  Only difference today being that the nation swimming in propaganda today is the United States and the ones filling the pool go by the acronyms ABC, CBS and NBC.

#4  Speaking of hypocrisy, we come to the Rutgers University Faculty Council for passing a resolution calling on the university to rescind its invitation to former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to deliver this year’s commencement speech and receive an honorary doctorate.

Proving the “big lie” theory is as active today as it was during Goebbels’ time, the supposedly smart faculty says “Condoleezza Rice … played a prominent role in the administration’s effort to mislead the American people about the presence of weapons of mass destruction,” and is therefore unworthy.

How quickly the facts of the time that every major intelligence agency of every western nation that had one suspected Saddam Hussein of having WMD’s have been replaced by the Goebbelsesque “Bush lied, people died”.

In addition, the historical re-write faculty council stated that: “A Commencement speaker… should embody moral authority and exemplary citizenship,”…. “an honorary Doctor of Laws degree should not honor someone who participated in a political effort to circumvent the law.

The council better hope an invitation doesn’t ever go out to one Barrack Obama.  They’ll choke themselves trying to dislodge the “participated in a political effort to circumvent the law” stuck in their hypocritical throats.

NJ.com reports that Lawrence Michael Ladutke, a Rutgers alumnus writing in the student newspaper shows just how hateful a good lefty can be:

“Honoring such a dishonorable person is disgusting because doing so honors the inhumane and unconstitutional actions Rice carried out,” Ladutke wrote. “My face is red, and not with scarlet pride. Rather it is red from embarrassment and anger.”

When Condoleezza Rice is demonized and a Barack Obama is idolized, you might want to start looking for your tea set.  For it’s only a matter of time before you run into Alice and the Mad Hatter.

#3  Both Elijah Cummings and Darrell Issa take the number three spot this week for their childish antics Wednesday at the House Oversight Committee hearing that turned what should have been a serious matter of Lois Lerner again hiding behind the 5th Amendment to avoid letting the American public in on just exactly why did the IRS target conservative groups for extra scrutiny.

Cummings for his grandstanding stunt Wednesday saying he wanted to “ask a question” but then when given the mic started off on another diatribe against Issa, and Issa himself for his own grandstanding stunt of cutting off Cummings mic.

No wonder the approval rating of Congress is somewhere south of New Zealand.

With the media already doing all it can to forget the IRS targeting and getting back fawning over Obama and helping their Democrat allies hold off a mid-term tsunami of voter anger, Issa’s sophomoric antics changed the narrative from

“Lerner takes the 5th to protect IRS wrongdoing” to “Issa shuts down Cummings”.

Throw in the fact that Obama has reneged on yet another promise, to assist in the investigations and get to the bottom of the scandal sooner rather than later, and you have yet one more reason to question why there wasn’t a select committee formed a year ago.

#2 In a Banana Republic move that his mentor, Barack Obama would be most proud of, newly elected “progressive” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio arbitrarily withdrew three previously approved “co-location” agreements allowing charter schools to utilize available existing space in public school buildings.

In a move that could only be conjured up by the most cynical and partisan among us, one of those schools de Blasio is kicking out produced the highest performing 5th grade class on New York state math assessment tests in 2013.

For all the rhetoric about the poor, for all the concern for the kids, for all the cries for “compassion”, de Blasio epitomizes the hypocrisy of today’s political left:  When it comes to the bottom line, (ie:  the left’s political bottom line) what matters most to the de Blasio’s of the world is not the status of the children and their need for education, but the size of the checks and political clout of the teacher’s unions.

But the left’s latest hero may have bit off more than he bargained for.  Fellow Democrat and Governor of the Empire State, Andrew Cuomo took on de Blasio directly when he told a crowd of several thousand charter school parents and supporters in Albany Tuesday that:

“You are not alone. We will save charter schools,”…“I am committed to ensuring charter schools have the financial capacity, the physical space and the government support to thrive and to grow.”

Here in fly-over country we’re lucky to still have excellent public schools and dedicated teachers but in the inner cities of New York, Chicago, L.A. and elsewhere, tens of thousands of children are being held hostage to union politics and democrat hypocrisy.

In this nation’s very first State of the Union address, President George Washington relayed to Congress:

“…there is nothing which can better deserve your patronage than the promotion of science and literature. Knowledge is in every country the surest basis of public happiness.”

Until the democrats and their union controllers return to advancing the “promotion of science and literature” instead of advancing their power and pocketbooks, millions of children will continue to grow into un-educated, un-productive, and yes, un-happy adults.  And the saddest part is that all of it COULD be prevented.

#1  The top spot this week goes to perhaps the worst example of a United States Senator to ever hold the office, Harry Reid.

Not satisfied with his previous week’s attack on Charles and David Koch as “un-American” for using their legally earned money to sponsor political causes he disagrees with, Reid doubled down on his disgusting behavior when he went to the Senate floor Tuesday and let loose with yet another rant of revulsion.

But this time it wasn’t just Messrs. Koch under attack.  In what I’m sure in Harry’s mind he thought was a clever play on words, he spouted:

Not only have Senate Republicans come to the floor to defend the Koch brothers personally, they have, again and again, defended the Kochs’ radical agenda……….And the Koch brothers are returning the favor with huge donations to Republican Senate candidates. Senate Republicans are addicted to Koch.

Now that’s behavior befitting the statesmanship and history of the United States Senate; compare the last name of a political opponent to an illegal drug and then accuse your Senate colleagues on the other side of the aisle of being addicted to that illegal drug.

A quick word search of the Real Clear Politics transcript of Harry’s demented rant shows the terms “extreme”, “radical” and “billionaire” peppered throughout the over 1400 word attack.  (Somewhere there’s an Obama speechwriter quite proud of himself.)  Of course Reid doesn’t once mention the likes of George Soros or Tom Steyer and the millions they shower upon Democrat politicians and causes.

A few of Harry’s other declarations:

In November of 2010, the petroleum industry walked right through the door the Supreme Court had opened, and spent hundreds of millions of dollars to elect a Republican majority to the House of Representatives. That Republican majority has effectively shut down any hope of passing legislation to limit the pollution that causes climate change.

So in Harry’s mind it wasn’t every day, common sense Americans practicing their Constitutional right to put a check on out of control Democrats that gave Republicans their House Majority in 2010, it was all the result of Big Oil and Big Billionaires that bought an election so they could keep on killing millions of Americans.

I don’t know what kind of crazy you’d have to be to believe such tripe but considering even more outrageousness was believed by millions leading up to the 2012 elections I admit I find myself being more aware of my surroundings when venturing out in public these days.

This discussion – this fight – isn’t just about health care or even about a few hundred million dollars in disingenuous ads. This is about two very wealthy individuals who intend to buy their very own Congress – a Congress beholden to their money and bound to enact their radical philosophy. Witness: Republican Senators beholden to wealthy special interests rush to the floor to defend the Kochs whenever I say something negative about the brothers or their radical agenda.

First off Harry, you gave up the right to label anything coming out of your mouth these days as a “discussion”.

And second, considering the union pay back GM takeover, the public union payback stimulus, the Fast and Furious gun control scheme, the IRS targeting conservative groups abuse, the big donor payback via green energy grants, the 85 billion a month quantitative easing payback to Wall Street, and the total screwing of the American public via the Affordable Care Act, I’d gladly and quite enthusiastically support a Congress bought by Charles and David Koch.

It would be nice to have a Congress focused on its actual Constitutional duties rather than buying votes via government transfer payments and rewarding illegal immigration.

It would be quite refreshing to have a Congress willing to reign in the regulatory apparatus acting as a 4th branch of government without any Constitutional constraint.

And I would be absolutely thrilled with a United States Senate that had a Majority Leader that respected the institution and its history and rather than protecting his party, actually allowed votes on House passed legislation instead.

They already believe they can play by a different set of rules. Think about what an America rigged by the Koch brothers would look like.

The Koch brothers don’t care about creating a strong public education system in America. The Koch brothers don’t care about maintaining the strong safety net of Medicare and Social Security. And The Koch brothers don’t care about a guarantee of affordable, quality health insurance for every American.

Harry, it’s YOUR Democrat party backed teachers unions that have destroyed the public education system in this country.  It is YOU and your Democrat party that has refused every reasonable proposal to reform the unsustainable Social Security and Medicare systems and save them for future generations.  And if you really cared about affordable, quality healthcare Harry you and your Democrat party would not have excluded every single conservative proposal for healthcare reform and instead passed the worst piece of legislation to come out of Congress in over a century.

But the worst of the worst was when Reid used a debunked report to accuse Koch companies of paying bribes and supplying terrorists:

These are the same brothers whose company, according to a Bloomberg investigation, paid bribes and kickbacks to win contracts in Africa, India, and the Middle East. These are the same brothers who, according to that report, used foreign subsidiaries to sell millions of dollars of equipment to Iran, a state sponsor of terrorism.

TheHill.com quotes Koch Industries general counsel Mark Holden’s response to Reid’s ridiculousness:

“Nothing has ever come of any of the allegations that Mr. Reid referred to,”…”Sen. Reid’s allegations are false,” he added.

But Harry Reid has never cared whether his words are true or not.  This is the same Harry Reid that back in 2012 took to that same Senate floor and attacked Mitt Romney with:

“So the word is out that he has not paid any taxes for 10 years. Let him prove he has paid taxes, because he has not.”

Reid justified the above abuse of the truth later that very day with this gem:

“I was told by an extremely credible source that Romney has not paid taxes for 10 years.”

Politifact.com gave Reid the “pants on fire” rating for his lie but the damage was done.  Romney had been tainted and that was all that mattered.  Two years and a couple more trillions in debt later Reid has yet to be held to account for his actions.

If you find yourself right about now shaking your head in disbelief as to how Reid can continue to get away with such disgusting behavior just scroll back up to the top of this post and re-read Folly #5.

Reid and his party know that no matter what the position, no matter what the words, no matter what the level of truth, they can count on their allies at the networks to promote it all without question to a gullible and ignorant public.

Because in their world, it is only THEY that are the true Americans.

You, me, the Koch’s and anyone else who dares believe in the Constitution, the rule of law, and a federal government constrained by both are but greedy, selfish “un-Americans” who care about no one but themselves.

And as such, we must not only be silenced, we must also be ridiculed and viled by whatever means necessary to ensure that the march to the left and its Holy Grail of “government by one forcing government on all” be not impeded.

That my friends is the battle in which we are currently enjoined and it is a battle as critical to the survival of the Republic today as the Battles of Yorktown, Gettysburg, or Normandy were in their day.

You can side with the likes of Americans for Prosperity that promotes free markets and individual liberty as laid out by the Founding Fathers, or you can side with the likes of the Center for American Progress that promotes an ever larger and ever more intrusive federal government as laid out by Barack Obama and Harry Reid.

The choice is yours, at least for now.

Because if Reid and the Democrats retain their Senate majority in November, all bets are off.

BONUS of the week:

This exchange between commentators “jessem1” and “nodnedlaw” on the-Fix blog of the Washington Post shows just how deep the resentment that Reid stokes runs:

jessem1   2/21/2014 12:19 PM CST

What is good for the $30,000,000K Koch brothers bears little resemblance to what is good for the $40K wage earner stuck in traffic trying to make his way home. When that middle of the road wage earner starts to realize that the Democrats will wield a massive political hammer. The Koch’s can outspend us, but they can’t outvote us.

nodnedlaw  3/1/2014 10:52 AM CST

The Koch brothers speak for multiple millions of normal Americans, including the “$40K wage earner stuck in traffic”, who cannot afford to make their voice heard on their own. We don’t want to be hammered by the Dems’ “massive political hammer”. We want common sense in government and more freedom than the “massive political hammer” will allow.

And then “nodnedlaw” follows it up with a great summary:

The Koch brothers’ agenda matches that of a majority of common sense voters who are being slapped around by our current government, not a “very small minority”, as you put it. We are grateful for their financial support of our values and ideals. They are helping us who believe in LIFE (fighting the culture of death being forced upon us by abortion laws and “death panels”), LIBERTY (escaping the heavy hand of the current government), and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.

If you are going to complain about “ungodly sums of money in the coffers of candidates”, don’t forget to include those who do the same on the liberal side.

As always, thanks for reading, have a great weekend and I’ll see ya round the Corner.
