It’s the policies, stupid. Time to demand from Obama: “Just WHO are YOU”?

June 19, 2016

ObamaMouseNotWhoWeAreIf there has been one constant to the Obama Presidency, it is his penchant to prefer rhetorical venom against, instead of reasoned discussion with, when it comes to critics of his policies.  Be it healthcare, economics, immigration, or just expecting he follow the rule of law, disagreeing too loudly with that which he is handing down guarantees yet another condescending “That’s not who we are” lecture.

Just once I’d like to see him asked:  “Well, Mr. President just who are you?

You grew up under the tutelage of Frank Marshall Davis, immersed yourself in the tactics of Saul Alinsky and spent your first 18 years between Indonesia and a Hawaiian paradise quite different than the other 99.5 percent of the American populace.  That’s not a knock against you or Hawaii, but anyone thinking that upbringing didn’t shape a world view not exactly in sync with millions of Americans is smoking some of that choom from your Punahou High days.

We are all products of our environment.  Yes, even you Mr. President.  That in itself is nothing to be ashamed of; the shame is failing to admit it.  I know the biases I bring with me from my growing up on a Kansas farm, small town high school, working through college.  What irritates me and a large chunk of America is that you won’t acknowledge yours.

Ideology is not a substitute for sound policy and we’ve been forced to endure a lot of substituting these past 7 ½ years.

Consider your Tuesday tirade against criticism of you for refusing to call our enemies the “radical Islamic terrorists” that they are.

While you are correct that “calling a threat by a different name does not make it go away” you couldn’t be more wrong with your “Groups like ISIL and al-Qaeda want to make this war a war between Islam and America, or between Islam and the West”…. “And if we fall into the trap of painting all Muslims with a broad brush… then we are doing the terrorists’ work for them.”

First, the word “radical” specifically separates the terrorists from Islam.  Second, Islamic terrorists have been at war with America since our beginning.  From the first Barbary War they forced upon Jefferson to siding with the Nazis in WWII, America has always been a target.

Just in the 8 years between 1993 and 2001alone we had the first World Trade Center bombing, two Presidential assassination attempts, the attacks in Saudi Arabia in ’95 and ’96, Kenyan and Tanzania embassy bombings in ’98, the USS Cole in 2000 and the murdering of over 3,000 innocent Americans in the 9/11 attacks.  Each of those atrocities was carried out by radical Islamic terrorists that America was not at war with.

It’s not words that are getting Americans killed, Mr. President, it’s your own failed policy.

You planted the seed for ISIS when you ignored sound advice and bugged out of Iraq, you gave it a safe space to grow with your disappearing “red line” in Syria, you sat idly by as its “JV team” convoyed across open desert to Fallujah and Mosel, and then you made it worse by hamstringing our military with PC rules of engagement.

If only we could get you as fired up against the terrorists as you do against your critics, we might actually win this war.

You have 7 months left until January 20, 2017 Mr. President.  You can keep trying to shut down debate with your straw man climb to a false moral high ground or you can do your job.

Sadly, I fear the odds on the latter are slim to none.
