Obama channels Reagan for debt speech, ignores truth and facts

If the omission of contextual facts to twist history into something it wasn’t, were a criminal offense Barack Obama could have been locked up and the key thrown away after his performance last night.

After dutifully blaming Bush for all his problems (bashing the spending but never mentioning 9/11’s cause for much of it and the fact that it was the Democrats hammering the Republicans that forced the Medicare prescription drug benefit and had they had their way it would have been much larger and more expensive) Obama then went into full propaganda mode.

There was the usual fear mongering that the Republican plan required seniors to pay more for Medicare while protecting corporate jet owners and oil and gas companies which is bold faced lie number 1.

While the lie is bad enough, can’t anyone get it through this idiot’s head that general aviation and oil and gas companies are responsible for MILLIONS OF JOBS in this country?

Then there’s bold faced omission of context lie number 2. Obama quotes Ronald Reagan: “Would you rather reduce deficits and interest rates by raising revenue from those who are not now paying their fair share, or would you rather accept larger budget deficits, higher interest rates, and higher unemployment? And I think I know your answer.”

Yet Dear Leader fails to tell the American people that Reagan later regretted his decision to go along with the tax increases because……..you guessed it……..the Democrats never delivered on their promised $3 dollars in spending cuts for $1 dollar in tax increase.

Obama again invokes the Reagan image stating that the debt limit was raised 18 times during the Gipper’s time in office.

Kind of funny though how he (Obama) doesn’t bother to mention that at it’s highest the national debt under Reagan reached only53% of GDP vs Obama’s historical high of over 93% debt to GDP after only two years in office with Obama’s own projections showing it just going higher and higher.

By bringing up past debt ceiling votes, Obama was most certainly trying to frame it as historically it’s been no big deal so it’s only the intransigent Republican’s making it a big deal now.

But again, we get another omission from Obama’s speech.

While he had no problem lifting out snippets from Reagan to promote his cause, he somehow had a complete memory failure of what he said when he was a Senator before he voted AGAINST raising the debt ceiling:

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure,” he said. “It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. … Leadership means that ‘the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better. I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase America’s debt limit.”

And he said this when the debt to GDP ratio was still at a manageable percentage and the TOTAL debt was under $9 trillion. (For all you DwainBwains out there the debt now stands at $14.3 trillion, enshrining your Dear Leader as having incurred more debt in less time than any President in United States History. Now THAT’s ‘transformational’!)

You’d think even a smidgeon of conscious would at least put the remainder of the speech back on the truth track. But you’d be thinking wrong. When it comes to Obama, you must first and foremost remember, the ONLY thing he’s ever done well in his entire life is give good speech. And he went for the gold when talking about possible default:

If that happens, and we default, we would not have enough money to pay all of our bills – bills that include monthly Social Security checks, veterans’ benefits, and the government contracts we’ve signed with thousands of businesses.

For the first time in history, our country’s Triple A credit rating would be downgraded, leaving investors around the world to wonder whether the United States is still a good bet. Interest rates would skyrocket on credit cards, mortgages, and car loans, which amounts to a huge tax hike on the American people. We would risk sparking a deep economic crisis – one caused almost entirely by Washington.

Never mind that the treasury will bring in more than enough revenue in August to pay all the debt and bond payments, all the Social Security checks, all the veteran’s benefits, Medicare and Medicaid.

Scaring the hell out of the most vulnerable among us for partisan political gain, now THAT’s Presidential Barry. Yes we can, yes we can, yes we can!!!!

But from his perspective you really can’t blame him.

Going on national television and pleading with the American people that they need to pay more in taxes because if they don’t obsolete agencies might have to close and thousands of federal government bureaucrats would lose their lifetime jobs just doesn’t have the same sympathy tone.

But we did find out one thing new about Dear Leader last night.

We found out that lies and fear-mongering aren’t the only thing our Country Agitator in Charge is good at. We found out that he can follow in the footsteps of Clinton and Nixon with ease.

In a last ditch effort to re-insert himself into a Congressional issue, and having absolutely no regard for the “dignity of the office”, he used national air time to instruct his minions to send a message and make their voices heard.

Disgusting? Yes. Tawdry? Absolutely. Surprising? Not at all.

So consumed is this man with himself and his ego that he would rather turn the podium of the Presidency into a carnival barker’s soap box than admit the reality of his political defeat last fall.

While I am no Herodotus, I am more versed than most on the events and period that we now know today as World War II. And one of the most nagging questions that has haunted me for decades is HOW? How was one man able to convince an entire nation to follow him to the depths of hell?

Who would have thought the answer would finally come when a petulant, narcissist took to the nation’s airwaves to prop up his failing agenda?

Watching Barack Obama pick and choose his “facts”, purposely omit contextual truths, and flat out lie to the American people without blinking an eye I saw just how easy it must have been for Adolf Hitler to turn millions of Germans into Nazi zombies.

Control the message, control the media, control the people.

Say it often enough and loud enough and its truth matters not, the people will begin to believe it just because they heard it.

But what’s even scarier than a President of the United States being able to lie with impunity is the fact that without the internet, cable and radio and the correcting factor they provide, he’d actually be getting away with it.

For I guarantee you, the networks and MSNBC will only remember two words from Obama’s speech last night and they will be driving them into the minds of their viewers hour after hour after hour: “compromise” and “balance”.

To the majority of the American people they are two reasonable and noble words.

Only problem is when used by Obama and his media they might as well be Sieg Heil.
