Obamacare’s false “choice”: Forgoing freedoms for mandated “rights”

February 12, 2012

Protecting us from the left for over 200 years

“But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of controversy.”………The now infamous words of one Nancy Patricia Pelosi, then Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and poster child for all things reprehensible with the modern day Democrat party in March 2010 showing an air of arrogance and condescension that until the reign of Obama had been reserved only for Kings and Queens of old and Banana Republic despots.

A March 9, 2010 New York Times article by By DAVID M. HERSZENHORN and ROBERT PEAR reminds of just how disgraceful the passage was in the first place:

“………….Democratic leaders had been contemplating an intricate legislative two-step, by which the House would approve the original Senate health care measure and both chambers would adopt a package of changes in a budget reconciliation bill. Both measures would then be sent to Mr. Obama for his signature.

Some officials said House leaders were holding out hope for a favorable ruling by the parliamentarians that would allow them to proceed as planned — or to circumvent the problem…………”

The last three words say it all: “circumvent the problem”. As in “circumvent” the legislative process as the Founders intended to avoid exactly the type of intrusion upon liberty legislation Pelosi and her Dems shoved through Congress during those dark and troublesome times.

Almost two years have passed since Obama’s bureaucratic behemoth was unleashed upon the populace. Yet as we found out just this past week, we STILL don’t have full disclosure of what’s buried within its thousands upon thousands of pages of regulations and mandates.

The recent King’s decree that birth control pills, “emergency” contraception (ie: aborting pills), and even some sterilization procedures are now inherent “rights” and should be provided “free of charge” with unfettered access plays well with his liberal base, but it plays hell with the Constitution.

Even if you pretend the Supreme Court did not just last month find itself in unanimous agreement when it handed down a 9 – 0 decision rebuking the Obama administration’s EEOC overreach into the first amendment’s “freedom of religion” clause and “ministerial exemption” doctrine, you cannot pretend that this latest “decree” does not fly in the face of one of this nations most basic founding principles: individual liberty and personal responsibility.

One person arbitrarily mandating a sweeping new government invented “right” to anything, is anything BUT the American way.

From the “individual mandate” requiring each and every citizen to purchase a private product just because they live in America and breath her air, to the “coverage edict” mandating what each and every employer and insurance must provide in benefits removes the one thing that has made this nation, (up to this point in history at least), the greatest nation on earth: FREEDOM.

Freedom to choose to live your life as an American citizen as fits your own individual interpretation of “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”.

It has always been the hypocrisy of the left that the rhetoric of “choice and the right to choose” translated into the reality of “choice as long as you “choose” the “correct” choice that we have already “chosen” for you.

The constant march of “progress” as defined by the liberal “progressives” has not lifted the poor out of poverty nor has it protected “free” choice. It has instead created a permanent underclass dependent upon government and seen one freedom after another curtailed by an ever larger and more intrusive federal government.

The narrative of the minion media is Obama is just trying to ensure that all women have access to basic, fundamental healthcare. And many of the lemmings who believe without thought will buy into that narrative.

Sadly though they will not only find themselves buying into a falsehood, they will also find themselves fulfilling Franklin’s prophetic warning: “Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

Giving up one of the most private liberties of all, personal health, over to a government bureaucracy for the temporary security of “free coverage” is a choice that anyone willing to look beyond the emotion of the moment can see is not only not a “good” choice, it is a very, very “dangerous” choice.

For what the government giveth one day, the government can taketh away the next. Today you get your healthcare “rights”, tomorrow you get someone else’s. Today you cheer getting what you want, tomorrow you cry over “how could they?”

They “could” because they “can”, and they “can” because when the time came to take a stand and say “no more”, too many just wanted theirs instead and repeated in unison: “please sir, I want some more”.

What brought this country to the greatness that it enjoys today was not government programs and mandates, it was millions of Americans pursuing their dreams under the protection of certain “inalienable rights” granted by God and protected by the greatest document in human history: The United States Constitution.

Obama can attempt to “transform” America into his vision to his secular humanist heart’s content.

The Corner firmly believes that the 80 percent of this country that does not identify as “liberal” will stand with true “freedom of choice” and choose this November a President more befitting to the ideals and principles the office entails.

A President who defend the Constitutional restraints upon the government and respects ALL Americans right to “choose”, not just those who voted for him or her.

In the end it all boils down to one, very simple and fundamental “choice”:

Do you want power with the appointed few or do you want it to stay with you?

November 6, 2012: perhaps the last “free” choice America makes.
