Fast and Furious: Obama channels Nixon, Holder remembers Mitchell

Holder stonewalls Congress again

President Obama has made comparing himself to former Presidents a new Washington parlor game.  Lincoln, Kennedy, Reagan, and both Roosevelts have all been used at will when convenient to push a political narrative but the Corner never imagined he’d channel Nixon.

But then again with his Attorney General, Eric Holder channeling John Mitchell on a daily basis, Obama didn’t really have much of a choice but to take a page from Nixon’s playbook and exert “executive privilege” to avoid damaging truths emerging during the home stretch of a re-election campaign.

If you live in a dwainbwain world and only accept your “news” from the “credible” sources such as MSNBC, HuffPo,, media matters, and the legacy networks then there’s a better than average chance you haven’t even heard of a little thing called “Fast and Furious” or that a United States Border Patrol agent, Brain Terry lost his life because of it.

The above paragraph opened my December 11, 2011 column regarding the lack of national news coverage on the botched ATF operation known as “Fast and Furious”.

The snippet below appeared 10 days later in the column discussing Eric Holder’s playing the race card in regards to F&F.:

Take the “Fast and Furious” debacle for instance. A United States Border Patrol again, Brian Terry was killed with one of the guns that Eric Holder’s department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms let “walk” into the arms of Mexican drug cartels yet what does Holder do? Blame it on racism. This little gem courtesy of TheDailyCaller :

In a front page New York Times story on Sunday, Holder alleged that some of his critics — a group he referred to as the “more extreme segment” — are motivated by racism. “This is a way to get at the president because of the way I can be identified with him,” Holder said of criticism he has received for the Fast and Furious scandal, among other things. “Both due to the nature of our relationship and, you know, the fact that we’re both African-American.”

Right there on the front page of this nation’s supposed “newspaper of record”, the Attorney General of the United States dismisses serious charges of “what did he know and when did he know it” regarding an operation so stupid even a dwainbwain could love it with nothing more than:

“Well, I’m black and they’re criticizing me. Obama’s black and they’re criticizing him. So the criticism must be coming at us because we’re black. Because, you know, we’re both black. Did I mention that the President and I are both black?” (For the crazies out there, NO that is not a direct quote.)

Is it any wonder then that the left dutifully repeats the narrative with every chance it gets? When the nation’s top cop plays the race card to deflect his own shortcomings why shouldn’t the left do it’s part to perpetuate the propaganda?

For the past six months, the national minion media and Eric Holder have been dutifully following that narrative.

And it was working. Working right up to the point until Herr Holder realized he either had to turn over documents being requested by Darrell Issa’s oversight committee or be held in contempt of Congress for not doing so.

For all of us peons out here in the real world we would have had no choice but to turn over the documents. But for Eric Holder, best bud of Dear Leader himself, such a painful, self-incriminating choice was not to be.

At the 59th minute of the 11th hour President Obama did what any cynical, self-serving President seeking re-election would do: invoke “executive privilege” and with the stroke of a pen, guarantee that the details of “who, what and when” would be pushed beyond November 6th, 2012.

If you’re not up to speed on the details and time line, click here for CBS News’ Sharyl Atkisson’s reporting. For additional perspective visit this American Thinker piece from October 31, 2011.

While it is true that this is only the first time that Obama has invoked executive privilege, the circumstances surrounding it, and the last minute invoking of it raises far more questions than answers.

After already having to retract at least two statements to Congress, it is not unreasonable for one to wonder just what else might Eric Holder be hiding.

“It’s not the crime, it’s the cover up” and “what did the President know and when did he know it” are synonymous with Watergate and the corruption of the Nixon administration.

While there is much the Obama administration has done to assault the basic tenets of decorum and decency during the past 3 ½ years, this latest act to put politics over truth ensures that when the history is written it won’t be Obama compared to FDR or Holder to RFK.

It will be Obama to Nixon and Holder to Mitchell.

Next Up: Brian Terry and Jamie Zapata are not “fish bait”.
