Friday Follies: Fast Food useful idiots, Jill Abramson’s mushbrain feminists, the French. What could go wrong?

May 16, 2014

Striking useful idiots, toad brain feminists, and the French. What could go wrong?

If it’s Friday, “Tis that time once again when we take stock of the inane and foolish put upon us by those forced to navigate life with an amount of gray matter just slightly larger than that found in your average toad.”

#5 Each and every one of the “useful idiot” fast food workers who went on “strike” Thursday. The Chicago Tribune coverage opened with this heart tugging opening:

Undeterred by wind and rain, dozens of fast food workers and community activists gathered early Thursday morning outside the so-called Rock ‘n’ Roll McDonald’s in downtown Chicago calling for wages of $15 per hour and better working conditions.

Music by a mariachi band kicked off the early morning demonstration. Rain poncho-clad demonstrators circled the McDonald’s with signs and chanted in Spanish, “What do we want? $15 When do we want it? Now!” and “McDonald’s we are here”

I wonder if any one of those “strikers” have any idea how each and everyone of all those union leaders who say they “care” so much about them make salary and benefits that put them all squarely in the 1 percent category the media happily shows them demagoguery.

The biggest scam of the “movement” however is the use of CEO salaries and corporate earnings as proof of the “unfairness” of the wages. Such false logic fails to point out the the vast majority of fast food restaurants are local franchisees operating on extremely tight margins.

Then of course there’s the pure economic facts that if you arbitrarily raise the cost of the lowest of the low skilled labor to $15 bucks an hour the inflation tsunami that would spread across the entire economy would do far more damage than any union self serving gain.

And just for grins I did a little non-common core math. USA Today reported that McDonald’s CEO makes Don Thompson has a pay package worth $13.8 million a year. GASP! Another number puts world wide McDonald’s employment at 1.7 million “oppressed” workers.

Do some “old” math and divide the 1.7 into the 13.8, then divide that answer by 2080 (the number of hours worked in one year with a 40 hour work week) and you get: 0.003930271493

Soooooooooooooo, all you little lefties lurking about. You could strip Mr. Thompson of ALL his pay and force him to work for free and you’d get a raise of less than 4 one thousandths of a cent per hour, or a little more than 8 bucks a year.

But forcing Mr. Thompson to work for free would present quite the political optics problem. Don Thompson is a black male. Did you hear that SEIU? How does that square with the rules of identity politics?

#4 The New York Times for the wonderfully full of irony, poetic justice, karma, and everything else referencing smug, elitism coming back to bight you in the a$$ act of spoiled little rich boy publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. unceremoniously dumping its first female executive editor Jill Abrambson.

#3 The Los Angelels Times, and more specifically, some “jump on the bandwagon I don’t really know what the hell I’m talking about but I’m a lefty and I’ve GOT to write SOMETHING”, Robin Abcarian for before even an ounce of the actual facts are in spouts off in a post on May 15th,

“Is Jill Abramson, the first female executive editor of the New York Times, who was unceremoniously dumped from her job Wednesday, the professional-class equivalent of equal pay heroine Lilly Ledbetter?”

Note to Abcarian and the rest of the left. If you really want to be treated “equally” then you have to also accept the fact that in the real world, sometimes people just get fired because the boss doesn’t like them. I know it’s hard for your feeble minds to comprehend but sometimes, just being a bastard or a bitch is reason enough to see your butt tossed into the unemployment line faster than that green slimy smelly stuff goes through a goose.

#2 But the screeching from the liberal fems was only beginning. The dutifully mind filled with mush Jessica Goldstein over at ThinkProgress penned quite the thought provoking piece. (Remember, this is the Follies and we ARE talking about those with toad equivalent gray matter mass.)

In place of a voice from the Times were the voices of what felt like every woman everywhere; not just women in media, but every woman who has ever worked. Abramson’s dismissal was shocking, but the story emerging behind it was anything but. A woman shoved off the edge of a glass cliff after less than three years on the job. Another one bites the dust.

But then to make it worse the little darling channels Nora Ephron at Wellesly, circa 1996:

“Don’t underestimate how much antagonism there is toward women and how many people wish we could turn the clock back. One of the things people always say to you if you get upset is, don’t take it personally, but listen hard to what’s going on and, please, I beg you, take it personally. Understand: every attack on Hillary Clinton for not knowing her place is an attack on you. Underneath almost all those attacks are the words: get back, get back to where you once belonged. When Elizabeth Dole pretends that she isn’t serious about her career, that is an attack on you. The acquittal of O.J. Simpson is an attack on you. Any move to limit abortion rights is an attack on you — whether or not you believe in abortion. The fact that Clarence Thomas is sitting on the Supreme Court today is an attack on you.”

Notice a pattern? What’s that you say? How do you get a pattern out of women to O.J. to Clarence Thomas?

First you have to think like the far left. Anything, and I do mean anything that does not go your way, does not fit your world view, is an attack.

Second, see above.

But perhaps I shouldn’t be too harsh on Ms. Goldstein. According to her bio, she arrived at this pinnacle moment of her career as the Culture Editor of Think Progress (oxymoron) via writing for Seventeen in college and a stint as a theater columnist at WaPo. Gigs like that don’t really give the brain much of a chance to grow beyond the size of your average pea.

#1 France

If in the lead up to the Second World War, England or the United States had decided to sell a battleship or two to Hitler do you think that after he had already taken over Austria and been handed the Sudetenland the French might, just might mind you, have shaken their heads (right before their 2 hour afternoon break of course) and muttered a “ce que l’enfer”? (What the hell?)

Yet that is exactly that course of action that has landed the developed worlds largest collection of losers on this weeks Follies. Believe it or not, Paris is going ahead with a deal to sell attack helicopter carriers to that champion of liberty Vladimir Putin.

As HOT AIR points out:

France will press ahead with a 1.2 billion-euro ($1.66 billion) contract to sell helicopter carriers to Russia because canceling the deal would do more damage to Paris than to Moscow, French diplomatic sources said on Monday.

And in logic only the French can understand:

“We are not delivering armed warships, but only the frame of the ship,” the source said.

And of course in the end, they find a way to actually justify their action because of US non-action:

A French government source said at no point had the U.S. officially expressed any concern over the sale …

This is the same France that denied our F111 bombers permission to fly over French air space on their way to send former Libyan dictator Moamar Qaddafi a personal message wrapped in a few thousand pounds of TNT for his support of terrorism.

This is the same France that despite what everyone with a brain had already learned from WWI about mechanized warfare and fixed fortifications went ahead and built the most elaborate Maginot Line to keep Germany at bay should it ever again start causing mischief. A line that proved completely worthless when Hitler just sent his tanks into Belgium and within months Paris was his and the Brits barely made it out of Dunkirk.

Yes, the same France that our troops getting ready to land in North Africa didn’t know up until the last minute whether they would support the allies or the German defenders.

Come to think of it, the French haven’t really been an ally to this nation since 1781 when the French fleet blockaded Chesapeake Bay giving Cornwallis the choice of surrender or slaughter.

While the French like to claim it was they who won the American Revolution, the thousands of patriots who died during the 16 years previous waiting on the French for help until they saw the Americans winning the war would probably have just a slightly different take on the French version of events.

So in the end, it’s nothing new for the French. Other than a statue for us and a tower for them, when the choice was hard, when it really mattered, when the times demanded a stand on principle, the French, as usual, slithered back to serving their self-centered selves.

As always, THANK YOU for stopping by, have a great wekeend and I’ll see ya round the Corner.
