Friday Follies: Jimmy Carter, Ole Miss, Obama, illegals and fake vets

August 8, 2014

Jimmy Carter, illegal immigration, academic lunacy, a Dem Congresswoman’s fake veteran flyer and of course, our Dear Leader, Barack Hussein Obama himself; Such a collection of misfits can mean only one thing: Yes it’s Friday and yes:

“Tis that time once again when we take stock of the inane and foolish put upon us by those forced to navigate life with an amount of gray matter just slightly larger than that found in your average toad.”

#5 Jimmy Carter legitimizes Hamas

Yes, the 2nd worst President in history (rumor has it he thanks Obama daily) went on record stating that the terrorist group Hamas should be recognized as a legitimate political actor.

Hamas hides rockets in U.N. schools, launches them behind human shields, uses donated concrete and supplies to build terrorist tunnels under Israel instead of building homes and hospitals yet the peanut farmer from Georgia (with a brain the same size mind you) wants to “legitimize” them.

While such a thought makes it worthy of a #1 Folly any week of any year, I rank it #5 because in this case it’s not the thought that counts, it’s the fact that Carter is more of a has been than bell bottoms and disco balls.

Anyone still taking anything Jimmy Carter says as serious policy lives on the same “Hey, I’m over here, look at me, hello” the ego far larger than relevance ward of the local insane asylum.

#4 Comprehensive immigration reform not so great after all

I love the state of Tennessee. With its soul in Memphis, America’s heart in Nashville, the history in Chattanooga, and the Great Smoky Mountains around Gatlinburg, traveling in Tennessee is more than a joy, it is an immersion into everything American.

After just spending ten days crisscrossing the state this week’s number four really hit home.

Like many states, illegal immigration is taking it’s toll on Tennessee and this snippet from the CNBC article says it all:

WASHINGTON, Aug. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The Gang of Eight immigration bill (S.744) passed by the U.S. Senate last June, and voted for by both Tennessee senators – Lamar Alexander (R) and Bob Corker (R), would have roughly doubled the number of new foreign workers allowed into the country, as well as legalized illegal immigrants. To put into context the possible effects of this legislation on Tennessee, the Center for Immigration Studies has analyzed recent government data on employment.

The analysis shows that, since 2000, all of the net increase in the number of working-age (16 to 65) people holding a job in Tennessee has gone to immigrants (legal and illegal). This is the case even though the native-born accounted for 60 percent of the growth in the state’s total working-age population.

Those of us who dare to suggest that America should secure her southern border first and then sort out the rest of the immigration problem through the filter of what is actually best for American citizens first are labeled xenophobes, racists, bigots, insert your own hate term here ___________________.

Well count me in as one American who could care less what you call me. I’m far more concerned about the millions of Americans unemployed today and the future for next generations that we leave behind than any liberal label meant to shame me into submission.

The shame in this matter is on the left side of the aisle and there’s no shame in exposing it.

#3 University of Mississippi Chancellor Dan Jones and the sensitivity Nazis

Jones makes the list for this quote:

“The reports from everyone involved were candid and thoughtful in suggesting that more can be done here to improve our environment for diversity and inclusion,”

Sorry Dean Jones, still focusing on “diversity and inclusion” in the year 2014 where anyone can be anything if ONLY he/she wants to be does not show thought but rather dutiful marching in lockstep with the PC crowd that has completely ruined higher education in this country.

The “sensitivity Nazis” for pushing the idea that because “ole Miss” was once used by slaves to address white females it’s continued use is racist and must be stopped. From the report:

6. Appropriate use of the name “Ole Miss.” UM’s longstanding nickname is beloved by the vast majority of its students and alumni. But a few, especially some university faculty, are uncomfortable with it. Some don’t want it used at all and some simply don’t want it used within the academic context.

The university completed a national study about the name “Ole Miss” during the last year and found the vast majority of respondents don’t attach any meaning to it other than an affectionate name for the university. In fact, a significant margin likes and prefers the “Ole Miss” name. And a very small percentage of respondents associate the university, either as “Ole Miss” or “University of Mississippi,” with negative race issues.

Did you notice the reference to “a very small percentage”? Yet Jones gives what should be ignored as just more leftist lunacy and instead treats it as a legitimate issue.

#2 Congresswoman Julia Brownley, D-CA for her fake veteran campaign flyer

According to a statement by her opponent, Republican Jeff Gorell, he himself a Commander in the Naval Reserves and third-generation Navy war veteran, Brownley recently mailed out a taxpayer funded flyer to the district implying that she had the support of local veterans.

Brownley however failed to check the pics and right there top-center is a smiling female in uniform. The uniform of the German Luftwaffe that is.

Yes, you read that right. A United States Congresswoman used your money to mail out a campaign flyer with a fake veteran from a foreign military.

But remember, according to the left all would be Utopia by now if us mean ‘ol obstructive conservatives would just compromise for the sake of the American people.

They just don’t get that there as still tens of millions of us out here that realize that bowing to a political party that includes the likes of Brownley and the rest of the CA democrat Congressional delegation would be the worst betrayal of America’s founding principles since Benedict Arnold. And that’s not a Folly, that’s pure, unphotoshopped, American truth.

(Brownlye’s flyer is at the bottom of this post)

#1 President Obama and his unbelievable ping-pong speech on Iraq last night.

Yes, it was painful, VERY painful. As I watched live our most glorious and all knowing Dear Leader tell us that he was authorizing limited air strikes against American’s newest (and most brutal) declared enemy ISIS and humanitarian aide for its victims I could not believe my eyes.

I could not believe them because the President refused to show me his. Now I may need reading glasses, and the memory isn’t quite as saber sharp as it used to be, but I swear, Obama did not look into the camera ONCE during that speech. Left, right, right left, right hold a second, now back left, hold there a bit, now back to the other side………..

I was floored. Here was the President of the United States telling the nation and the world that he was authorizing military action in Iraq and he couldn’t even make eye contact with an inanimate camera.

You can see the entire Obama back and forth in the link but today’s photo puts it into focus. On the left is Ronald Reagan addressing the nation regarding U.S. warplanes bombing Libyan targets, on the right Mr. “I can’t say anything unless its scripted”.

Yes, Reagan is using a teleprompter as well, but at least he has the conviction of belief to look the American people in the eye. That side by side comparison says all you need to know as to why Reagan was able to set us on a path to win the Cold War and why Obama has us on a path to God knows what.

It’s but one, single word: Leadership. Reagan had it, Obama never will.

For an old political observer like me it just further confirmed he has completely checked out of the job. The entire speech was nothing but an emotionless, reading of words, that given his past statements, must have been very hard for his ego to take.

He had refused to lead and secure a status of forces agreement in Iraq, instead pulling all troops out for a political victory and leaving no stabilizing force to guard the gains made.

He had allowed his red-line in Syria to be crossed without consequence which gave ISIS the training ground and recruiting tool they needed.

He had ignored the warnings from months ago when ISIS took Fallujah that if they were not stopped soon, very, very bad things were to come.

In January of this year he had even gone so far as to issue this sophomoric assertion:

“The analogy we use around here sometimes, and I think is accurate, is if a jayvee team puts on Lakers uniforms that doesn’t make them Kobe Bryant,” Obama told Remnick. “I think there is a distinction between the capacity and reach of a bin Laden and a network that is actively planning major terrorist plots against the homeland versus jihadists who are engaged in various local power struggles and disputes, often sectarian.”

And yet there he was on national television having to show that all his previous actions and words had been wrong.

The great, the powerful, the crowd massing Obama, had so screwed up, that the Middle East was now far worse off than when he took office.

Yes, he could still try to blame Bush, but what’s happening now is all Obama, all the time, and that’s just not something he knows how to handle.

Obama has never had to take responsibility for anything in his life. Why the hell should he have to start now?

He will have a golden opportunity to send a message to the world that THIS time he’s serious in less than 24 hours. Tomorrow he’s due to fly off to Martha’s Vineyard for yet another vacation from his already vacation hours workday.

Obama could be a man, a leader, a commander in chief and send Michelle and kiddies off to the Vineyard while he stays and does what he was elected to do.

-OR- he could do what he always does: Leisure first, America last.

I’m not betting on the former.

As always, thanks for stopping by, have a great weekend and I’ll see ya round the Corner.
