Can Hillary survive her own facts?

April 26, 2015

ClintonCashIf there’s one word that defines Bill and Hillary Clinton’s political careers it’s cash. Cold, hard, get us into that top1 percent as fast as you can, cash.

Like a southern warden’s blood hound, the Clinton’s can smell a buck no matter where it’s hiding.

From turning a mere $1,000 into a $100k in the cattle futures market, to renting out the Lincoln bedroom to top political donors while in the White House, to multi-million dollar advances for books that only acolytes read, to collecting up to a cool half million for speeches, when it comes to using their public “service” to put cash in their pockets no one is better at collecting cash, than Mr. and Mrs. William Jefferson Clinton.

And until now, the Clinton honed politics of personal destruction has been an impregnable defense against any suggestion of impropriety as to how they got said cash.

No matter the accusation, no matter the charge, if it’s critical of a Clinton the response is the same: Attack and distract.

On Thursday, the New York Times published a story that builds upon facts in author Peter Schweizer upcoming book “Clinton Cash” that connects the dots between Russian donations to the Clinton Foundation and $500,000 paid to Bill for a speech to Hillary’s State Department decisions that ultimately gave approval for a Russian company, Uranium One to now control roughly one-fifth of all U.S. uranium production capacity.

As the story was breaking, the panel on MSNBC’s Morning Joe began discussing the implications of the article and the facts within. But Clinton warrior Howard Dean would have none of it. Choosing instead to attack Schweizer from accepting money from Ted Cruz supporters and the Times as having done “sloppy political reporting” in the past. (Kill the messenger, the message goes away.)

Dean was so offensive that it brought a very liberal Mika Brzezinski to state what may be the best quote ever regarding the Clinton machine’s penchant of ignoring the question while pushing a distraction: “Forget the author at this point, let’s make sure if the facts are true, we need to pursue that…..You can go on your little jihad against the author but it’s not going to change the facts, the facts are facts.”

The good news for Mrs. Clinton though is that it shouldn’t take long for the State Department to do an email server search and clear her name post haste.

Unless of course, Mrs. Clinton thought herself above the law and on the very day her Secretary of State confirmation hearings started set up a private email server outside oversight and public accountability.

Unless of course she also discerned for herself what the public was allowed to know regarding her years as the nation’s top diplomat.

Unless of course, being the Clinton that she is, she also decided that it wasn’t enough to just be judge and jury over what emails would get released but also be the executioner for the over 30,000 of them that she and she alone declared “personal”.

The story of Clinton Cash is complex and the possible corruption tucked into its nooks and crannies is only now starting to emerge, but at least at this point, it seems the press isn’t going to just roll over and anoint Mrs. Clinton for the sake of another “historic” election as it did for Barack Obama in 2008.

How long the scrutiny will last, how far it will go, and to where it will lead is at this point still anyone’s guess, but at least it has started.

And that’s a fact that even Hillary can’t deny.
