Obama’s SOTU 2016: Fanciful facts amid dangerous delusions

January 17, 2016

The White House pre-State of the Union spin was that Mr. Obama’s last address would be “non-traditional”. And while it was not the traditional litany of wants, Obama did manage to keep it within his own tradition of exaggerating accomplishments and throwing out economic numbers for the gullible to gobble up with glee.

A couple of highlights gleaned from Factcheck.org reveal a less than truthful President.

Obama’s claim that he had cut “deficits by almost three quarters” was shown to be “akin to a merchant who raises his price one day and declares “75 percent off” the next.

And his  “Nearly 18 million people have gained coverage so far,”…”And in the process, health care inflation has slowed” is based on the “administration’s own estimates”, includes Medicaid expansion and the over 2 million kiddies still on their parents plans through the fragile age of 26.  The claim also includes the millions who had plans cancelled by mandates and had to re-enroll in new plans.  As for the inflation claim, it was already going down before the ACA, and that for 2014, when the President’s dream child really kicked in, the growth rate actually went UP.

In essence, for what little was actually accomplished, it all could have been done without the massive government intrusions and the billions wasted on failed exchanges and busted websites.

And whoever fed him the whopper about “wind power is now cheaper than dirtier, conventional power” should be fired immediately as even with massive federal subsidies it still isn’t true.

If the President had just stayed with playing fancy with his economic accomplishments I could almost forgive him for his imaginary state of the union.  But his foreign policy lecture took him into unforgivable territory.

His flippant “Masses of fighters on the back of pickup trucks, twisted souls plotting in apartments or garages, they pose an enormous danger to civilians, they have to be stopped, but they do not threaten our national existence.” may play well in the faculty lounge but went beyond callous for the family and friends of the “civilians” killed over the skies of the Sinai Peninsula, in a Paris restaurant, a Christmas party in San Bernardino, and most recently a Jakarta shopping district.

Does the man have absolutely no sense of shame?  Does he not recall erasing his own “red line” on Syria and how that played in the widening of the conflict?  Does he not remember satellite photos of “fighters on the back of pickup trucks” convoying across open desert into Iraq that could have been obliterated with airstrikes then to keep them from “plotting in apartments or garages” now?

And while Mr. Obama was bragging of his “smarter approach” and “principled diplomacy”, forces of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard were making a propaganda video of 10 detained American sailors, and Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian and four other Americans were still imprisoned. You have to go back to Jimmy Carter’s 1980 State of the Union for such blatant Iranian hostility towards American citizens yet Obama still plans to turn over $100 billion dollars of frozen cash and assets to the worlds’ number 1 sponsor of state terrorism.

Topping that off was news that due to “scheduling conflicts”, Mr. Obama had less than 5 minutes at Joint Base Andrews for King Abdullah of Jordan during his visit to D.C.  Obama had time for Mat Lauer and the Today Show, and political trips to Nebraska and Louisiana but couldn’t seem to squeeze in a face to face with one of our most important Arab allies in the entire Middle East?

Mr. Obama may call that “smart diplomacy” but in the real world it’s beyond stupid, it’s downright dangerous.
